The new one-time-purchase version of Microsoft Office is out.
As usual, Microsoft warns that it’s inferior to the subscription version, since it won’t receive updates and… *checks notes* … lacks the Copilot AI integration.

@erkhyan Does seem awful expensive for Office either way. Like "only even bother if you need some obscure Microsoft-specific feature @libreoffice doesn't have yet" situation.

@Niall@mastodon.nz@erkhyan be careful. My legit purchased version of office (2007) has run out of 'machine changes' so the next time I get a computer I won't have office. I thought if I bought it I owned it. Apparently not.

@erkhyan Wait. No real-time collaboration? That's seems like they're saying no OneDrive or SharePoint integration which is an odd decision to make.
@erkhyan@yiff.life A great number of people refuse to upgrade from Office 2007/2010/2016 and such, so not having to actively stop the updates is also a great bonus if you're actually happy with the product!
