politics, maybe doesn't make sense

I can't speak for groups I'm not a part of but I feel like as a queer person and as someone disabled from working, being positioned as if:

.......bigots are making the jokes about us and we're supposed to be anti-humour like "no, take us seriously please".......

isn't a favourable position to be in

.........
I think that type of "don't laugh" attitude might work better in intimate settings but as a tactic to bring people onto our side, I dunno about that

@Resni i think i see what youre saying and i think we're just at a lose-lose position. You see some cishet people joking about gender or pronouns whatever and you are left with either saying nothing and bigotry light being normalized with the door open for worse. Or you say something and look like youre overreacting and cant joke around at all and lose people that way. it just like sucks?

@farjacko yeah I totally feel that. I think it sucks for sure. I think there's a lot of situations that are totally lose-lose like that, but I also wonder like how did we get in this position for these situations to come up so much, yknow? sometimes I feel like there should be more popular jokes that are on our side and less on theirs

@Resni humor being subjective and the line between laughing at and laughing with a group is really hard to define. Plus we just dont have as many voices being minorities. Maybe encouraging allies to foster that sort of laughing with energy is the way to go but what thatd look like is gonna be super contextual and poorly defined. Being more open to allies making jokes and not fearing stepping on toes i guess? but like idk im white and avoid race jokes so 🤷‍♂️

politics, maybe doesn't make sense

@farjacko yeah I think not having as many voices is a super huge thing, it sucks cause were at a disadvantaged position from the start. I feel like the majority shouldn't be coming up with the jokes, unless it's hating on the majority I guess:p I'm white too and I wouldn't make jokes about other races but I'll make jokes about white people and my culture being shitty and lame etc. ..........

@farjacko ........but then also people can make "ironic" "jokes" about bigotry cause they actually love it. it's complex I guess
