I'm getting real tired of how many people tag their account "bot" because they play a robot character or because they are a transhumanist or because they otherwise identify with robots.
That's not what the tag is for. It's for accounts where most posts come from something that isn't conscious -- it's for people to reduce spam and to know whether there is something on the other end which can actually form friendships.
If a scientific revolution occurs that allows us to transfer our consciousness to a computer, and we continue posting to mastodon, marking our accounts "bot" would still be incorrect.
If a scientific revolution gave us sentient, compassionate AI, I thinkbit would not be correct to label their accounts "bot"
@dipolecat if you dislike it so strongly, why not just block them?
@snailerotica A block is "you area bad person", not "you did something wrong"
@snailerotica And where's the "just" to this? When I encounter an account like this, I generally choose not to interact, and I generally don't see the account again, so blocking or muting.is just am extra step.
And blocking people for doing it is not going to let anyone else know the behavior is not okay
@dipolecat fair enough.
Understandably confusing X'D Good thing I don't RP robots then X'D
> ...it's for people...to know whether there is something on the other end which can actually form friendships.
This is surprisingly profound.
